Welcome to "From the Court to the Kitchen!" I'm Marty
Embry, your guide and host to this doorway to fantastic cookbooks, spices and cook wear. I
have published 6 cook books and the most recent was released in December 2009. My spices were
created because of my desire for flavoring foods with simple ingredients. I graduated from DePaul University in
Chicago. Need I say how wonderful Chicago is to entice your palate to dance to the beat of its own drum by daring to
venture to the restaurants in the city? After graduating from DePaul, I played professional basketball in
Europe for 13 years and what better way to learn how to mix and match flavors, while creating succulent meals! My cook books are virtual European restaurants on paper! Turkish delights, Spanish specialties,
Belgium delicacies, simple Italian creations, delicious Japanese bites and please don't get me started on all of the
southern and cajun cuisine that my mom, dad, wife and mother in law taught me! Wow, I just had a moment!
You will undoubtedly be the envy of the family come dinner time!
It's almost a sin to enjoy cooking and enjoy eating as much as I do. Please, for the love of all that is holy and sacred, take your time and enjoy your meal, enjoy your family
and friends and enjoy how food can enhance your dining experience! There is nothing like slowly eating a home cooked
meal and allowing your palate to be bathed in the wonderful flavors, but only after your nose has gone into overdrive!
Did I mention to you that I really, really enjoy food!
"From the Court to the Kitchen" is a new brand
created by me. I actually have my wife and/or neighbor/partner in crime to thank for the title. They
both said that they gave me the idea, but I can't remember who actually said it first! We were talking about cook book
titles and simply trying to develop a name. My first choice was, "Big Daddy's Easy Cook Book" (This
was 2 years before the current cooking show 'Big Daddy's House') and "From My Kitchen To Yours". I kept
going back to, "From My Kitchen To Yours!" As many of you know, Paula Deene is one of my favorite self made
chefs and the name of the cook book was a tribute to her. I couldn't really use that name because of a possible lawsuit.
Well, that was Paula's catch phrase and I'm sure that she wouldn't have been too pleased about that. I ran
off about 20 different names and then all of a sudden, "From the Court to the Kitchen" was given
and it simply fit! My cook book name was born! Which one said it first will forever be a mystery, but we are all
family so it really doesn't matter! The brand, From the Court to the Kitchen, now include my cook books, coney sauce
spice packets (for authentic Flint, Michigan Coney Dogs), seasoning salt, herb rubs, blackening spice, spare rib
dry rub, crab seasoning, creole seasonings and a line of athletic cook wear. That's cook wear as in caps, shirts and
sport themed aprons.
The spices were created to emphasize my nearly 25 years of recipes. The idea was to create
delicious and flavorful spices that could easily enhance any dish, whether it was from my cook book or one of your personal
recipes.
From my court, to your kitchen...enjoy!
